The data on 3D and weight
is simple:
the parameters for the HP ZBook Fury 16 G9 and ThinkPad P16 Gen 1 are as follows:
The three-dimensional dimensions are: 363 x 250 x 27.7 mm (14.29 x 9.52 x 1.12 inches) and 364 x 266 x 30.23 mm (14.3 x 10.5 x 1.2 inches);
Weight starts at 2.34 kg (5.27 lbs) and 2.95 kg (6.5 lbs).
The thickness difference is 2.53 mm, and it is difficult to clearly experience it when viewed from the front.
However, the difference in width is 15 mm, which is clearly noticeable in comparison.
So, in the comparison of three-dimensional and weight, the F16G9 undoubtedly wins completely---- who is for and who is against? Even if ThinkPad Supreme Leader YY opposes, it is useless.
The convenience
of the layout is that when the back is compared and observed, because the bottom of the body of the P16G1 is not significantly narrowed inward like the F16G9, It will be noticeable that the P16G1 is thicker.
The P16G has four back ports, and I like this layout.
The back of the F16G9 has nothing but hidden exhaust vents.
Comparing the left side of the two, it is obvious that the P16G1 below is thicker.
F16G9 compared with the previous generation, power interface and two Thunderbolt 4 ports, moved from the right side of the fuselage to the left side, this change I think the author thinks to like---- because the power cord and thunder wire are relatively thick, densely arranged on the right side of the fuselage, for the majority of right-handed users, it is not as good as placed on the left side of the fuselage.
At the same time, the miniDP and HDMI ports of the F16G9 are also on the left, which are interfaces that require thick cables.
In contrast, the P16G9 does not have a miniDP port, and has a USB-C port that supports DP output, which is better than the F16G9---- and has USB-C function under ensuring DP output.
Comparing the right side of the two, the author's arrangement of P16G1 is one of the unreasonable appearances: as a heavyweight mobile workstation, there is no RJ45 Ethernet port?!
In addition, the P16G1's SD reader slot does not come with a filler block, which is not as beautifully done as the F16G9.
Of course, the SIM card slot of the P16G1 is placed on the right side of the fuselage, which is more convenient for users to operate than the F16G9 placed inside the fuselage.
The top right of the back of the two looks down and contrasts.
The "Z" logo in the center of the upper cover of the F16G9 is prominent, and the thin red line on the back of the P16G is eye-catching.
After opening the screen cover, the vertical dimensions of the two are 266 mm and 250 mm, respectively, with a difference of 16 mm, which immediately reflects:
the P16G1 screen position is significantly higher, which will bring users a relatively more comfortable use effect.
In fact, this is not entirely the credit of the large vertical size of P16G1, the most important credit comes from the classic vertical screen axis scheme adopted by P16G1, and the lower border of the P16G1 screen is also larger.
The different screen axis schemes of the two also cause the angle of the screen cover of the two to be different:
the P16G1 can exceed 180 degrees, and the F16G9 is still some distance from 180 degrees--- and the P16G1 wins in this regard.
In terms of keyboard, because the P16G1's keyboard layout is significantly better than the F16G9--- especially the size and position of the arrow keys and function keys, the P16G1 is obviously better---- so it is also the P16G1 that wins.
In terms of pointing devices, the F16G9 abandons the pointing stick, and the touchpad area is slightly larger while retaining independent physical buttons, which is better than the P16G1;
But the P16G1 has a pointing stick system, which is better than the F16G9---- given this, the author believes that the P16G1 is better in this regard.
Another place is that the C-side of the P16G1 has a small angle from the back to the front, and ergonomically speaking, the user's comfort with the keyboard will be better than that of the F16G9--- but most users should not feel this obviously.
The above is the layout and convenient comparison of the external layout of the two bodies, the author believes that P16G1 is superior---- if HP does not agree, you can find me to protest, of course, the protest is invalid.
Let's look at the comparison between the two bodies.
If the P16G1 needs to maintain the two memories on the bottom and an M.2 2280 SSD, you need to loosen a screw and pry open the small hatch on the bottom.
If you need to maintain the two pieces of memory under the keyboard and another M.2 2280 SSD, you need to loosen the bottom two screws, then go back to the C side, take out the keyboard, and then remove the three screws fixing the metal cover, and remove the cover to see the two memories under the keyboard and another M.2 2280 SSD.
At this time, the WWAN card under the keyboard can also be maintained, and the wireless card of the P16G1 is also on the right side of the SSD under the keyboard, but it is integrated on the motherboard and cannot be replaced by the user.
The F16G9 does not need to loosen any screws, only need to open the bottom cover lock switch, you can remove the bottom cover, then remove the three screws, then remove the fixing strip, and then remove the hard disk protection cover and memory protection cover, you can maintain the four hard disks and four memories that are on the bottom of the fuselage.
At this time, you can also perform maintenance operations on WWAN cards and SIM cards, and wireless network cards are also standard M.2 2230 cards, which users can easily replace by themselves.
In summary, it can be seen that
the maintenance method of P16G1 for internal replaceable parts is step-by-step advancement and hierarchical management;
The F16G9 is a one-step and fully open way to maintain the internal replaceable parts.
It is strictly forbidden to say that the difficulty of both operations is very low.
However, F16G9 is more convenient, and the wireless network card can also be freely replaced---- but in the replacement of SIM card, P16G1 is more convenient than F16G9 as for the left side of the fuselage.
In summary, the author believes that the maintenance operation of the F16G9 is basically better than the P16G1.
Then compare the internal layout of the two.
From the general direction, the internal layout ideas of the two are similar: they are both heat dissipation components for the exhaust air behind the bottom intake of the double fans on both sides;
Both are built-in main batteries located under the bottom (that is, under the palm rest in front of the body);
Then the difference between the two began to appear:
the P16G1 is to divide the storage parts on both sides of the motherboard, and the ports on the two sides of the fuselage and the rear.
F16G9 is to place all the storage components on one side of the motherboard, the ports are placed in two parts, and there is only a heat dissipation vent at the rear.
In fact, the most critical difference between the two lies in the heat dissipation components that look the same layout:
the P16G1's four-heat pipe dual-fan cooling module is thrilling, the area is huge, and the heat dissipation plate in the GPU part has occupied the boundary with the battery compartment.
The F16G9's cooling component is gentle, except for the two fans, the area occupied is also flat, and there is space between the GPU and the battery compartment to easily place four M.2 SSDs.
From the above internal layout differences, it can be seen that this is the key factor that the thickness of the body of the P16G1 is larger than that of the F16G9---- P16G1 divides the storage components on both sides of the motherboard, while its heat dissipation components occupy a much larger area than the F16G9.
Since the author does not want to retain these two machines for his own use according to his own needs, he does not want to completely disassemble the two, and can only continue to virtually disassemble the two on paper based on the information found.
The heat dissipation component of P16G1 is composed of two fans, four large heat pipes plus heat dissipation plates, the three are closely integrated into a whole, some users take off the weighing, it is said that the weight is as high as 600 grams, even if it is taken down and taken to the scrap collection station, you can also pat your chest and sell a good price...
The front and back of the motherboard of the P16G1 are as follows, it can be seen that the rear double Thunderbolt and HDMI are directly integrated on the motherboard, and the power interface needs to be connected to the rear with an extension cable.
You can also see the standard MXM graphics connector located to the left of the CPU and bottom memory slots.
Although the MXM graphics card interface of the P16G1 is standard, the graphics card of the P16G1 is not a standard shape MXM graphics card, but its own unique shape.
Whether or not the graphics card is standard or not, at least the standard MXM interface is beneficial.
In theory, if the user can have sufficient hands-on ability to solve the physical size problem and solve the VBIOS problem, the P16G1 graphics card can be used to other models.
In other words, if the user can solve the physical size problem, VBIOS and BIOS problem, and power supply problem, it is also feasible to replace the P16G1 with a graphics card.
There are four cooling systems for the F16G9, which are for AMD graphics cards, NVDA high-end graphics cards, NVIDIA mid-range graphics cards and Intel integrated graphics.
According to the official after-sales disassembly video, you can see its use to see two large and two small total of four heat pipes: the back of the heat dissipation component is shown in the following video screenshot:
The diagram of the motherboard after removing the thermal components, you can see the left GPU and the right CPU.
Among them, the GPU is in the form of a daughter card, using a unique interface, a silver metal fixing plate locked by three screws, and the motherboard is tightly connected.
Since the F16G9 graphics card adopts an exclusive interface, basically the average user cannot do anything to upgrade and replace it.
HP's official F16G9 paper information is very limited, the official pointed out---- using vapor chamber, a new ultra-thin curved metal fan and dual ventilation duct design, officially advertised as "the highest performance cooling solution to date", with a gorgeous name---- HP Vaporforce Thermals--- literally translates to "HP Steam Violent Heat Dissipation".
At this point, the internal layout differences between the two are fully presented, as two:
1. The storage scheme and placement are different---- the author believes that the F16G9's 4 memory 4 hard disks on the same side of the scheme and layout, far better than the P16G1 double-sided layout and only 2 hard disk scheme;
2. The shape and interface of the graphics card are different---- the author believes that the P16G1 adopts the standard MXM interface, which is better than the dedicated interface of the F16G1, at least leaving a glimmer of life for users with technical pursuits.
As for the heat dissipation effect of the heat dissipation components of the two and the performance of the whole machine, the performance of the whole machine is discussed in detail below.
In summary, the convenience of the layout of the two, the author believes:
outside the body, P16G1 is superior;
Inside the body, the F16G9 dominates.
The two have their own advantages, and the users who choose need to take what they need, and there is something to gain and give away, which really cannot be the best of both worlds.
If I had to choose one of the two, I would choose F16G9:
I don't have him, but 4 hard drives!
If the P16G1 also supports 4 built-in hard disks, the author must choose P16G1:
I don't have him, but I know it!
Because the author is more used to the ThinkPad's keyboard layout and pointing stick system.
