Industrial design: simple, resolute, error-free
This machine is black. When you see a not-so-slim black square lying on the table from a distance, you should know that it is a productivity computer that is not allowed to show much personality, a pure tool.
The all-plastic A-side and skin-friendly material embellishments combine to create a classic feel that has not changed. The little red dot in the ThinkPad logo in the upper left corner will still work with you, just like it did a decade ago.
There are no switches, indicators or sensors placed on the front side of the fuselage, only the sliding switch of the camera bezel "ThinkShutter".
Most of the ports are concentrated on the left side of the fuselage, and the specific ports will not be repeated, which have been listed in detail in the parameter table above. The USB-A port that supports shutdown power supply is located on this side.
The rear side of the fuselage is not blank, which I did not expect, and the SIM card tray is located on this side. However, this machine does not add a pin to the accessory like mobile phone products. Having not touched other WWAN-enabled laptops, I'm not quite sure if this is normal for laptops.
The ports on the right side of the fuselage are a smart card reader, USB-A port, and Kensington security keyhole. The exhaust port of the cooling system is also mixed in.
The lid can be easily opened with one hand. Although the screen of this unit is brand new and the size is unprecedented, the very classic design does not allow me to find any surprises. The only thing that surprised me was that although the machine was equipped with a "heterogeneous strong core", the i7-1270P, Intel's proud work, there was only an ordinary "Intel Inside" logo on the palm rest, which once made me wonder if the machine was actually equipped with an "Intel processor" - the new series that integrated the original Pentium and Celeron products.
As a 16-inch large cup model, this machine naturally has a numeric keypad design.
And as a ThinkPad, the most distinctive pointing stick system is also essential.
In addition, keyboard key travel has not suffered as devastating as other ultra-thin models, and various factors add up to make this machine still a good laptop for paperwork.
The only fly in the ointment is that despite the size being expanded to 16.1 inches, the unit still does not use the QWERTY area of the standard pitch, and users who are usually accustomed to desktop keyboards will need time to get used to.
180° opening and closing is the basic skill of basic work. From this angle we can also see that the hole at the top of the C side is a speaker cutout, with two sound drivers. The power/fingerprint sensor that eats a whole row of space alone looks a bit lonely.
The D-side is still the classic art style of the ThinkPad model. But I didn't notice the spill deflector for a while, and the Reset button moved to the right edge. The foot pads are four separate rubber feet, and the rear two are a little higher. The logo in the lower left corner indicates the material of the back cover - magnesium alloy, you don't need to guess anymore. The Windows sticker in the lower right corner looks across the bank from him.
Loosen the 8 Phillips screws on the bottom, remove the SIM tray and try to open the cover on the D side. All screws cannot be removed, and there should be a limit ring for installation, which is absolutely praised.
As usual, the gap in the lower edge was pried with a crowbar, but the lid did not move. How so?
Check to see if there are hidden screws that have not been removed, and there are none. Don't dare to act rashly now, hurry up and turn out the user guide on the official website to read it: turn to page 51:
So it is! To from the hinge on the upper edge, then lift the hinge on the lower edge. Coupled with the screw limit design found above, this machine avoids the phenomenon of losing screws during disassembly to the greatest extent.
When the lid is removed, you can see the hinge-shaped design of the inner buckle on the lower edge.
Then we successfully removed the cover on the D side. Since the battery is not connected to the motherboard with a cable, but directly with contacts, choose to remove the battery immediately to avoid accidents.
The projection of the battery is a very standard rectangle, fixed to the body by 6 Phillips screws. Typical capacity 86Wh, rated capacity 83.5Wh, manufacturer is Gabaiyu Industrial Co., Ltd.
It can be seen that as a facelifting model, the internal idle space is still relatively large, and there is even a gap of about 2cm between the fins and the exhaust port of the shell. The space inside the laptop should be expensive, and no matter how many times you have seen such a design, it is a pity.
The cooling system uses two heat pipes in series to cover the CPU and dGPU cores, and welds a set of fins to correspond to a fan. This is a very common design on commercial-grade notebooks, and it is also reactive on this machine. However, today, when the performance of consumer-grade notebooks has been greatly improved and new heat dissipation designs are emerging endlessly, it is still inevitable to feel very backward.
The USB-A interface in the upper right corner is undertaken by a separate PCB, connected to the motherboard with a cable, and the interface is carefully reinforced with a metal plate.
The smart card reader is located above the battery and also occupies a separate PCB, which is connected with a cable.
All interfaces on the left are placed directly on the motherboard, and all have been carefully rugged.
